which exists out of its time in history, especially one which happened or

For some people,
marriage is an anachronism from the days when women needed to be protected.
appease /əˈpiːz/ verb [ T ] formal disapproving
to prevent further
disagreement in arguments or war by giving to the other side an advantage that
they have demanded
She claimed that the
government had only changed the law in order to appease their critics.

to state the truth of
something strongly
The lawyer averred her
client's innocence.

astringent to make your skin less oily.

avoiding physical
pleasures and living a simple life, often for religious reasons
They live a very ascetic
life.
